Gado Gado Betawi. It’s a dish an Indonesian Salad of slightly blanched or steamed vegetables, boiled eggs, fried potatoes tofu & tempeh and lontong (rice cake). Served with very rich peanut sauce also topped with krupuk/crackers and sprinkles of fried shallots.
In where I grew up in Surabaya – East Java, We have Pecel , the Javanese Salad.
Pecel consists of blanched of water spinach, or morning glory, bean sprout, bean sprouts, cucumber, chinese amarath, bean sprouts, yardlong bean, cucumber. Served also in peanut sauce but kinda different taste from Gado Gado sauce which is made with a bit coconut milk. This pecel sauce is made from a mixture of peanuts, kencur( Kaempferia Galanga), red yellow, salt, and kaffir lime leaves. Kencur (Kaempferia Galanga) taste is quite dominant with a thick texture of the sauce. In its presentation, pecel is often served with Rempeyek, a deep fried Javanese crackers with peanuts and dried anchovies.
