




Beef Rendang is a flavorful West Sumatran dry caralamized curry that’s made with beef, that’s cooked together with a spice paste and coconut milk until fork-tender. It’s then fried together with the remaining braising liquid until the liquid caramelises around the beef, coating it with an insane amount of flavors.

These food is the typical Eid Al-Fitr’s feast in Indonesia. When I lived in Jakarta, we always visited our friends who celebrate Eid Al-Fitr and they will have these food on their table.
There is also a Ketupat which is a rice-based food that is wrapped in the webbing of young coconut leaves or “janur” in Javanese language. Ketupat is cooked in boiling water for a long time, up to ±5 hours. Glutinous rice is typically used as ketupat filling, and it could be soaked in water containing pandanus leaves for 30 minutes before being filled in a janur wrap to give a flavor to the rice.
