My name is Edeline Marta. I was born in Surabaya Indonesia but am now living in Sweden.
I am married and have 3 beautiful children. I am not a chef, I am just a working mom who loves to cook and bake for my family and friends. I am not a pro yet, I am still learning everyday with my cooking and baking.
Welcome to Dapur Kornhills! Why Dapur Kornhills ? “Dapur” means Kitchen in Bahasa Indonesia. “Kornhills” is the name of the street where we live. I have been cooking in my home for almost 15 years now and my teachers were Mom and my sister from the start. So basically, the recipes for all the dishes I have created originated from my family and dear friends.
Why are most of the recipes from Indonesia? It’s because Indonesian cuisine has a lot of collection of various regional culinary tradition. Indonesia has so many traditional recipes which represent people from the various regions. Indonesian cuisine varies greatly by region and has many different influences.
Indonesian cuisine is often complex in flavour, ingredients and its ‘bumbu’ or spice mixture. Indonesian dishes have rich flavours; most often described as savory, hot and spicy, and also combination of basic tastes such as sweet, salty, sour and bitter. Seven main Indonesian cooking methods are frying, grilling, roasting, dry roasting, sautéing, boiling and steaming.
As I read from Wikipedia, SBS Australia stated that Indonesian food is “one of the most vibrant and colourful cuisines in the world, full of intense flavor.” Kira Jane Buxton of Mashed described it as “eclectic” and “diverse.”
That is the main reason I want to share many Indonesian recipes in this blog. Since I live in Sweden, and not many people here know much about Indonesian cuisine, I am trying to share my experiences and to inspire them to try and cook more Indonesian food.
Like Om William Wongso told me, “Practice makes you perfect.” So do not be afraid to fail from creating a delicious meal or cake, just keep trying until you achieve your best!
Happy Cooking and Baking!
Let’s make something together.
