Welcome to Dapur Kornhills, Why Dapur Kornhills ? “Dapur” means Kitchen in Bahasa Indonesia. “Kornhills” is the name of the street where we live. I have been cooking in this apartment for almost 15 years now and my teacher was my Mom and my sister from the start. So basically all the dishes I have created the recipe was through my family or dear friends.
Why most of the recipe is from Indonesia? It’s because Indonesian cuisine has a lot of collection of various regional culinary tradition. Indonesian has so many traditional recipe which is carried by each family from each region. Indonesian cuisine varies greatly by region and has many different influences.
Indonesian cuisine often has complex flavour, certain ingredients and bumbu spices mixture. Indonesian dishes have rich flavours; most often described as savory, hot and spicy, and also combination of basic tastes such as sweet, salty, sour and bitter. Seven main Indonesian cooking methods are frying, grilling, roasting, dry roasting, sautéing, boiling and steaming.
As I read from Wikipedia, SBS Australia stated that Indonesian food is “one of the most vibrant and colourful cuisines in the world, full of intense flavour”. Kira Jane Buxton of Mashed described it as “eclectic” and “diverse”.
That is why the reason I want to share Indonesian recipes more in this blog. Since I live in Sweden, not many people know about Indonesian cuisine and I am trying to show or to give them inspirations to try and cook Indonesian food more.
